High Peaks Kitchen Restaurant Review
Indian cuisine for us is our comfort food, home base, and all that we know. Despite having a love for exploring new cuisines, we find ourselves returning to our roots every so often. We call it our "Reset" food. Since we have grown up with this genre of food and learned to cook it from our previous generations, we inevitably have a high standard of expectations when we do order or dine at Indian restaurants. Today, we will share with you a Bay Area restaurant that should be on your radar and what exactly to order when you visit or takeout!
Introducing... High Peaks Kitchen at two locations in Oakland:
- 5229 College Ave, Oakland
- 391 Grand Ave, Oakland* (We usually opt for take-out and this location is the one that delivers via Doordash)
I cannot speak to the ambiance or parking, so this review will simply center around the dishes themselves. Our recommendations to order include the following:
Samosa Chaat- To be honest, one of the best I have tasted in Bay Area to date. If they don't pour all chutneys on it when you dine at the restaurant, I highly suggest doing so. When we order takeout, they typically add everything in and WOW, the flavors take you for a ride.
Lamb Biryani- You will notice the Chicken version of this in my picture, however, I personally think the Lamb is better! Cannot go wrong with either.
Mushroom Masala- Being Punjabi (my Indian friends know what I am talking about), I typically don't order this at restaurants, however someone recommended it to me and I have been obsessed. High Peaks Nail really nails this dish, try it!
Prawn Tandoori- Well seasoned and make sure to squeeze that lemon on it!
The restaurant has a rather extensive menu, so quite a bit remains left for us to try. As always, classics that you should look at ordering at any Indian restaurant include Lamb Rogan, Chicken Tikka Masala, Saag Paneer, Daal Makhani, Chana Masala, and Paneer Tikka Masala. Accompany your meal and cool off with their savory Raita.
We hoped you enjoyed our review of High Peaks Kitchen in Oakland, tag #furbabyandfoodie when you pay them a visit!
